APC Urges INEC to Enforce Supreme Court Ruling on Party Membership Registers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked INEC to enforce a Supreme Court judgment requiring political parties to comply with statutory rules governing membership registers ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a letter dated October 9, 2026, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Ajibola Basiru urged the commission to implement the court’s September 24 ruling concerning Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026.

The party said political parties must submit their membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before their primaries, congresses and conventions. It also argued that only members listed in the properly submitted registers should participate in those internal elections.

The APC warned that parties that fail to meet the legal requirements could face consequences, including being barred from fielding candidates.

INEC has indicated that it would examine the implications of the judgment before determining its next steps.
