Wike Vows to Resist Amaechi’s Campaign in Rivers Over Tinubu Insults

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi could face resistance if he campaigns in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike’s warning followed allegations that Amaechi described Nigerians willing to vote for President Bola Tinubu as thieves and mentally unstable. The minister called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take action against politicians who engage in personal attacks and inflammatory remarks.

Wike also challenged Amaechi to explain projects undertaken during his tenure as Rivers governor, including a reported $39 million cassava flour mill and a ₦68 billion monorail project.

The development adds another layer to the political tensions building ahead of the 2027 elections.
